DWURNIK, SASNAL AND A SYMBOL OF DIALOGUE BETWEEN ARTISTS

DWURNIK, SASNAL AND A SYMBOL OF DIALOGUE BETWEEN ARTISTS

The extraordinary story of the painting, which was initially a work by Sasnal entitled “Mościce” (2000), and was transformed by Dwurnik in a way that can be considered a tribute, or maybe a desecration, but certainly an artistic commentary.

Edward Dwurnik, known for his expressive style and courage in making unobvious decisions, decided to repaint the work of his younger colleague, adding a crowd of fans and an angel hanging over them to the speedway stadium from Sasnal’s hometown of Tarnów (“Kibole”, 2009). The effect is a collision of two different but equally characteristic styles that together create a fascinating narrative about Polish contemporary art.

This work, important for Polish contemporary art, becomes a kind of dialogue between generations of artists – Sasnal, associated with a minimalist approach and subtle reflection, and Dwurnik, whose work exudes strength and energy. Their combined work goes beyond the framework of a classic painting, becoming a testimony to an artistic relationship and a bold experiment.
