On Saturday, January 25 this year. Rafał Olbiński’s painting “The Third Dimension” was sold for 123,000. PLN (including the auction fee) in the Sopot Auction House, reaching a price higher than the upper estimate provided by the company (PLN 90,000). It is the most expensive auctioneering artist in history! The painting went under the hammer at the contemporary art auction – Fantastic Art II. The first five works included in the price ranking of Olbiński’s works were auctioned off at the Sopot Auction House. The artist’s works are characterized by a surprising combination of elements, combining plans and unusual scaling, as well as the narrative nature of his works. The work of Rafał Olbiński enjoys unflagging interest and popularity among collectors and art lovers.

Olbiński participated in many Polish and international exhibitions in this field of creativity. Since 1981 he has been living and working in New York. He continues his poster work as well as painting, press drawing and illustration. He publishes in magazines such as “Newsweek”, “Time”, “Business Week”, “The New York Times”, “Playboy”, “New Yorker”. From 1985, he also lectures at the School of Visual Arts in New York. For many years, he has been designing posters for the New York City Opera. In 1994, he received the Paris award for the most memorable poster of the year (International Oscar for the World’s Most Memorable Poster “Prix Savignac 1994”), and in 1995 he won the competition for the poster “New York – capital of the world”. It is represented in the collections of, among others Museum of Modern Art in New York, Library of Congress Print Collection in Washington, and the Poster Museum in Wilanów. His works are characterized by a specific type of imaging which earned him the opinion of a surrealist.
